The Distribution division of the Ritchie Group will become Trust Media Distribution on 9th May.

After a year of consolidation and stabilisation, the Distribution division is now poised for significant growth and a new brand identity will underpin and add momentum to this planned expansion. Having consulted with both suppliers and customers, we believe that now is the appropriate time to launch our new brand.

The name Trust Media Distribution captures our vision for the future. It conveys a sense of confidence and ongoing trust that should be at the foundation of our relationship with customers and suppliers alike. The word Trust is generic and the addition of Media underscores the breadth of our planned product-offering as the business evolves.

The name also resonates with the activities of our parent company, The Lord’s Work Trust, a charitable trust that actively supports Christian projects and ministries around the world.

Improving availability at STL Distribution

In recent weeks we have been working hard on improving our stock availability. As part of this work, our main focus has been on the more popular selling titles – we call them category 1 & 2 (core stock and bestsellers) – which make up a significant proportion of the lines our customers require. Our goal is to fulfil over 90% of lines ordered from these categories and, with this in mind, we have seen a marked improvement in our availability and achieved that goal last week.

As you will be aware, it is a continual process to ensure we have the right titles in stock at the right time; we recognise that this is by no means perfect. Our core stock and bestsellers may be different to yours and there will be areas where we still have gaps. So please don’t hesitate to make us aware of where we need to strengthen our stock range by speaking with our Customer Services team or your Area Sales Manager; they will gladly receive your feedback and pass on to the supply chain team, who will bring stock in as appropriate.

99 years tomorrow since the Titanic sank

The Titanic struck the iceberg at 23.40 on the night of the 14th April, 1912, sinking the following morning.

Electricity Supply Update

Temporary disruption to our Ordering Service
Saturday 19th February

Due to a necessary upgrade to the electricity supply to STL Distribution’s Carlisle site our electricity supplier will be temporarily shutting off the power to the office and warehouse building between 9am and 4pm on Saturday 19th February. Because of this power outage there will be a suspension to our usual order-taking services over the weekend, as follows:

Customer Services Ordering
Between 8.30 and 12 noon Customer Services will be unable to process any orders. We will be providing a skeleton service for message taking only between 8.30am and 12 noon and will arrange to call you back on Monday to take and process your order.

Website ordering
The website www.STLDistribution.co.uk will be unaffected by the loss of power and we recommend using the website to place any orders during Saturday.

SyneRgi Ordering
SyneRgi users will be unable to place orders or make order queries; however, you will be able to see stock availability as usual.
Our electricity supplier expects power to be restored by 4pm on Saturday, therefore SyneRgi should resume normal ordering service after this time.

Following the departure of Steve Apted (Supply Chain Director), John Ritchie Ltd is pleased to announce the following supply chain responsibilities. These are effective immediately.

John O’Nions who was recently appointed to the role of Business Development and Strategy Director for the Ritchie Group will focus on establishing, strengthening and deepening relationships with our supply chain partners. John is well known in the trade and has a wealth of experience in both the Christian and General Market sectors, ideally equipping him for this role. His experience and knowledge will be of significant benefit in ensuring that the distribution division of John Ritchie Ltd (soon to be re-branded Trust Media Distribution) is well placed to take advantage of opportunities as they present themselves.

Paul Davies, Finance Director will assume responsibility for procurement budgets and stock management functions. Paul’s primary focus will be on ensuring high rates of stock availability and fill rate on key titles.

Commenting on the changes, John Ritchie Group CEO Ken Munro said “I am convinced that this restructure will deliver excellent outcomes in the two key elements of supply chain: relationships with our partners and efficient internal procedures. John and Paul bring considerable strength to these two areas and therefore we should see tangible benefits internally and more importantly for our suppliers and customers".

Key Appointments within the Ritchie Group

John Ritchie Ltd is delighted to announce the appointments of John O’Nions as Business Development and Strategy Director and Paul Davies as Finance Director.

John O’Nions joins the group on January 17, 2011. Until December 2010 John led the Sales and Marketing function at Lion Hudson and during his long tenure there spearheaded impressive growth in both Christian and General Market sales as well as contributing significantly to the overall direction of the Lion Hudson business as a board member.

Commenting on the appointment John Ritchie Group CEO Ken Munro said “John joins us at an exciting time in our ongoing development. After a year of consolidation and stabilisation following the acquisition of STL Distribution we are now poised for significant growth and I am confident that John will be a key contributor. His industry reputation and experience are second to none and will significantly enhance the strength of our leadership team".

Anticipating his new role with John Ritchie Ltd, John O’Nions said “I have watched the re-birth of the former STL Distribution business under John Ritchie Ltd ownership and have been increasingly impressed with the swift recovery and innovation displayed by the new business. I am therefore delighted to be joining the company at such a pivotal time and I am looking forward to contributing to its future success”.

Paul Davies joins John Ritchie Ltd having led the Finance function in a £60m business at the heart of the UK Fishing industry. As a member of the Senior Management team, Paul led a number of key change management programmes within this business, which underpinned its growth and development.

Ken Munro said “Paul’s experience and skills are well aligned to the challenges and opportunities that face the Ritchie Group at this point in our continued development. I am delighted to have someone of Paul’s calibre joining the Senior Management Team as we begin 2011.

Further strengthening the Finance function is Samantha Park who joins the Group as Management Accountant. Samantha, an Accountancy graduate, has worked on major project initiatives in the Public Sector and more recently as a key member of the Finance team at Edinburgh Woollen Mill.

John Ritchie Ltd also announces that Steve Apted, Director of Supply Chain, is leaving the business.

Steve Apted will leave the company’s employment to pursue a new opportunity nearer to his home in Milton Keynes at the end of January.
Ken Munro indicated that he understood the personal reasons behind Steve’s move and wished him well for the future. While expressing appreciation for the valuable contribution that Steve has made, he also re-iterated the company’s continued commitment to and unmatched expertise in procuring product for the Christian Book trade.
Steve Apted stated his confidence in the continued success of the business and the significant progress made over recent months to renew and rebuild a vital component of the Trade in the UK. He also stated how much he had enjoyed his time with John Ritchie Ltd and his belief that an efficiently run Supply Chain will continue to provide a solid foundation for the ongoing growth of the business and will ensure effective future service to its many valued customers.

Penfold Card and Gift moving to Carlisle

As part of the consolidation of John Ritchie Ltd. businesses, Penfold Card & Gift product is now solely available through STL Distribution in Carlisle. Penfold Card & Gift, who have been producing and selling quality Christian gift product to the UK market for 25 years, was acquired by John Ritchie Ltd. in May 2009. With John Ritchie Ltd’s acquisition of STL Distribution in December 2009, all wholesale operations for the entire John Ritchie Ltd. group are being centralised in Carlisle. Penfold’s cards and gifts have been transferring from Bicester to Carlisle over the last few weeks, with full availability expected by end-January 2011

Michael J. Penfold, Divisional Director, Penfold Card & Gift said, "Moving Penfold Card & Gift into the STL Distribution warehouse in Carlisle will greatly enhance what we can do for our customers in terms of speed of despatch, visibility on the STL Distribution website, access to gift and card data through SyneRgi, and product showcasing in the STL Distribution monthly Bulletin. The following depots have reported incidences of severe weather throughout their region, therefore deliveries will be affected:- Cumbernauld (60), Cowdenbeath (86), Dundee (61), Kendal (52), Gretna (54), Aberdeen (62/67/69)

Knaresborough (48) have advised that their vehicle covering route 17 has broken down, therefore deliveries to YO19 and YO41 may be affected.

REMINDER VAT increase – January 4th 2011

You will be aware that VAT is set to increase to 20% from 4th of January 2011.
STL Distribution has been in discussion with suppliers about VAT-able items and are pleased to tell you that, in the main we will be absorbing the increase by reducing the pre-VAT prices so that the RRP remains unaltered.

eg. a £14.99 CD - currently £12.76 plus 17.5% VAT will become £12.49 plus 20% VAT = £14.99

In order to prepare for the VAT changes it is necessary for our computer system to be taken down over New Year’s Day for essential maintenance.
Orders placed by the order deadline (2.30pm phone/fax and 4pm electronic) on Friday 31st December will receive the 17.5% VAT rate. Orders placed after the deadline will be processed and invoiced on 4th January and VAT-able items will incur 20% rate*.

The following depots have reported receiving heavy snowfall has been reported in their regions, therefore deliveries will be affected:- Gloucester (26 - all GL and HR9 postcodes affected), Cardiff (27 - all CF, NP and LD postcodes affected), Launceston (16/72/81/172), Swansea (28/98/45 - No despatches today), Exeter (15/115), Aylesbury (24/124), Hornsey (96/196)

Newcastle (56/156) has advised that their vehicle on route 50 has broken down; therefore some deliveries to SR3 may be affected.

Hornsey (96/196) have advised that their vehicle covering route 34 has broken down, therefore some deliveries may be affected.

Leeds (50) has advised that their vehicle covering route 19 has broken down, therefore some deliveries to LS12 may be affected.

Inverness (88/89) has advised that all the ferries have been suspended due to high winds; as a result all depot 88 consignments will be affected. The high winds are also causing many of their roads (including the main trunk road (A9) north of Inverness) to be closed due to drifting and blizzard conditions. As a result they will only be offering a limited delivery service for area 89 today.

Belfast (64) have advised that due to heavy snowfall throughout their region, deliveries may be affected.

Aberdeen (62/67/69) have advised that due to heavy snowfall, no rural areas will be attempted today. The A92 and A96 are currently closed, causing further delays.

Essential Website Maintenance
Wednesday 8th December

Please be advised that from 4.30pm on Wednesday 8th December, the STL Distribution website will be temporarily unavailable for a short period of time whilst essential site maintenance is undertaken. All other ordering channels will remain unaffected.

It is anticipated that the website will be taken down for approximately three hours. However, as the site is switched back on it may take slightly longer for all customers to see the site as the switch-on propagates to different parts of the country.

Any web orders placed up until the 4pm order deadline on Wednesday 8th December will be processed as normal. Anything placed after this time will be processed when the website is back up and running.

Please note this maintenance is only affecting the website. All other ordering channels, including Phone/Fax, SyneRgi etc will operate their usual service. Please be advised that a weather warning has been issued by the MET office as follows:-

Heavy snow will continue across parts of Central and Eastern Scotland and Eastern England this morning. There will be a further 15cm or more in places, with an increased risk of drifting. Widespread ice will be an additional hazard. Snow showers will also affect Southern and Western Cornwall.

To maximise the benefit of our same-day-despatch service, we would recommend that, where possible, you place orders for multiple, rather than single, items to ensure your order is posted via FedEx to arrive the following day*. JOHN RITCHIE LIMITED – TRADE ANNOUNCEMENT

The past 12 months have been a period of significant growth for the Kilmarnock based company, John Ritchie Limited. As part of its ongoing business development, it acquired Penfold Card & Gift in Bicester, Eikon Bible Art and most recently the STL Distribution business in Carlisle at the start of 2010.

The priority over the first 6 months of this year was to stabilise the distribution business and carry out a strategic review of the new expanded organisation to determine its future direction.

After consultation with a small number of staff in Kilmarnock, John Ritchie Ltd is now proposing to further enhance its service to the UK Christian retail trade by integrating all Ritchie trade distribution operations into the Carlisle warehouse. This re-organisation will enable Ritchie to provide a consolidated ordering facility and more efficient supply of products to its trade customers. The existing Kilmarnock site will focus on developing its Publishing and Retailing functions.

Ken Munro, CEO of John Ritchie Ltd said: “I believe this re-organisation of activities is essential in order to improve efficiency and further enhance the excellent support for all our customers. John Ritchie Publishing enjoys an important heritage within Scotland and Northern Ireland and it is our intention to further support this core market through our retailing and publishing activities. STL Distribution offers unparalleled service levels to the UK Christian book trade. By bringing the RItchie's stock range into Carlisle we will continue to strengthen and broaden the product range we bring to market.”

Over the August Bank Holiday Weekend (close of business Friday 27th – Tuesday 31st 8am) STL Distribution are undergoing an equipment move at the Carlisle premises. This will regrettably result in some services being temporarily unavailable to you over that weekend.

The work being carried out is necessary for maintaining high levels of service to you and we hope that this short disruption will not be a great inconvenience. Please note, this does not involve a change to any software or systems, it is purely a physical move.

ORDER DEADLINES

On Friday 27th August the order deadlines (for same-day-despatch) for phone and fax orders will remain unaltered. Order deadlines for electronic orders (Synergi/website) will be brought forward to 2.30pm

ELECTRONIC ORDERING

From 4pm on Friday 27th August it will not be possible to send Orders or Enquiries via Synergi. However the STL column in the stocklist will still display up to date stock levels.

www.stldistribution.co.uk will be working as normal over the weekend.
